Farthings is a small, independent publishing partnership based in Scarborough, North Yorkshire. We are 2 retired professionals, who began self-publishing as we were keen to see our own work in print. Between us we have a wide range of professional skills which have proved invaluable in our success in self-publishing, not only of our own work, but also the work of others. David Fowler, who runs the technical side of the partnership, spent his working life in finance. Since his retirement, he has published several magazines and written 4 books, (with a 5th under way!) all published by Farthings. He ensures that each book, produced and published by us, has a totally professional finish. Ren Yaldren has had a wide ranging career, which has included service in the WRAF, a career in psychology and careers guidance. She uses her skills in interviewing, typing, editing and proof reading for those clients of Farthings who need these additional facilities. Ren has also written 3 books of her own which Farthings has published.
REMINDER Once your book is published through Farthings we will send you a professionally produced, bookshop standard, copy of your book. Whether you buy more copies is entirely up to you. There is no obligation apart from you buying an additional copy of your book through us if you later decide to edit your manuscript after receiving your proof copy. This is necessary to ensure continuing distribution through Lulu, Amazon etc. We specialise in the niche market of low print runs at reasonable prices and we keep your files in case you want further copies of your book at a later date. Previous clients will be offered a discount on the price of publishing future work. You don’t have to have a digital manuscript to use our services. Ren is a qualified interviewer and typist and can either type your manuscript or help you to convert the story in your head, into a manuscript, which you can proof read, ready for printing and publishing. It is a very painless process and we guarantee you will even enjoy it! Please contact us if you wish to discuss getting your work published. There is no charge for a first meeting or for e-mailed advice. And we do not bite!
SHEADER IN CLOVER - By Malcolm Bruce. £14.00 inc p & p - The fourth book in the continuing saga of the Sheader family of Scarborough relates how, badly injured Terry Sheader, has recovered his health and joins the Secret Service to track down sabotage on the then new Rolls Royce Merlin aero engine.
A MIXED BOUQUET - By Ren Yaldren. £6 inc p & p - This second edition of Ren's popular Anthology of poems and prose contains many new poems. If you like the style of Pam Ayres you'll love this book.
I AM GOLGOTHA - By Alan Combes £13.00 inc p & p - Set in idyllic surroundings, River View Cottage has had more than its share of human misery. And yet passers-by regard it as an innocent house built when the railway came to town. But in river View there lurks a presence: one which follows every move of its occupants. Is it an innocent observer or a malevolent resident?
THE PUZZLE - By Sarah Hill £11.00 inc p & p - A children's story about
Dexter dog and Dood the little human who both wanted to be superheros more than anything else in the whole world (DON’T ALL BOYS??). Problematically, Dood was small and scared and Dex was brave and accident-prone.... but that wasn’t going to stop them!! No way!
A JOURNEY IN ENGLAND - By Frank Binder - £11.00 inc p & p -Frank Binder was a highly acclaimed author and one of the finest prose writers in English literary history. He was a lecturer in English studies at Bonn University from 1922 to 1933 and A Journey in England is based on his lectures given to his students there before he was driven out by the Nazis. This book was first published in 1932 and Farthings Publishing is proud to be involved in publishing this second edition.
SCARBOROUGH SNIPPETS - By David Fowler £11.00 inc p & p - Another book by David Fowler, this time unashamedly about looking back -from the first mention of the town of Scarborough in 8000 BC, to the present day 10,103 years later. It is not a formal history; rather a miscellany of fascinating facts culled from many sources stretching back over the years.
ANY SEASIDE TOWN - By Jon Peasland £11 inc p & p - A first book by a new author well worth reading. Take a seedy, bleery, leery trip into the world of three friends desperate to break out of their addictive cycle of self destruction, desperation and hopelessness.
PARSONAL DIARY - By Barrie Petterson - £11 inc p & p - A hilariously funny, sometimes irreverent book by a previous Baptist minister. 'IF, as is claimed - serious points are better made using humour, this diary punches well above its weight.'
HOW YOUR DOCTOR SEES YOU - Robert Angus - £14 inc p & p Robert Angus's book which contains over 650 x rays and scans, together with accompanying text for either the professional or the layman is a remarkably well researched book. 'By just spending an hour going through this book I learned more about my body than I had learned in the previous 60 years.'
